A prestigious developer has announced plans to build luxury villas in the beautiful village of Kato Drys. The developers who mainly build villas that command seven figure sums has begun survey work, prior to construction.
The properties will be at the top end of the market and will command views of the Agios Minas valley in the south, with the sea in the distance and the village to the west.
The beautiful traditional village of Kato Drys is located within a 35-minute drive of Larnaca and within a 40-minute drive from Limassol. The village borders the charming villages of Lefkara and Vavla.
Kato Drys has two churches, Panayia Eleousa and Ayios Charalambos. Agios Charalambous is the patron saint of the village. Three further chapels are set in the village; Ayios Neophytos, Ayios Georgios and Timios Prodromos.
The village offers 2 museums within the village, one is the Bee and Embroidery Museum where you can learn the region’s rich history and enjoy reliving the past. The second museum is the local Rural Museum of Kato Drys; the Rural Museum is housed in a traditional listed building as an Ancient Monument, which was the home of Gabriel and Eleni Papachristoforou. The house is a typical example of the local architecture of the 19th century.
Located within the village is a traditional Cypriot tavern and a local coffee shop (Kafenion) where many of the locals gather to socialise and chat. A local bus service operates to the neighbouring villages.
From the village, there are nature trails leading you to Lefkara where you will pass vineyards, viewing points, the Metamorfosi Sotiros Chapel and the Monument of Heroes and Missing Person of Lefkara. The trail is 2.5km and will take in the region of 1 hour. The mountainous village of Lefkara is world-renowned for its traditional handicrafts of lace embroidery and filigree silver. It features cobbled streets and picturesque architecture. Due to its extraordinary character, the embroidery of Lefkara has passed on from generation to generation and has been included in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
